Zhono discusses latest firmware update by HP

January 4, 2022

In a latest “How To” article, the company discusses three points to consider for the latest firmware update for the HP CF500 series devices.

Zhono explains that on 22 November 2021, HP released the latest firmware version 20211109 (previous firmware version 20201021), which upgrades the firmware for the HP CF500 series printers.

After the firmware is updated, a prompt (figure 1) pops up if the printer is loaded with a cartridge with a compatible chip released before October 2020.

After testing, Zhono said that its chips are not affected by this latest update for the HP CF500 series devices and added, “the aftermarket chips for the HP CF500 series released by Zhono are compatible with both the latest and previous versions of the firmware.”

The company also explained the following points:

  1. If the prompt (figure 1) pops up, please replace the cartridge chip with a new one, which was released after October 2020.
  2. After the firmware is updated, if the cartridges are installed with non-HP chips, a feature will be added to the HP CF500 series printer causing the printer to block the cartridges. For more details, please check the Administration interface (figures 2 & 3).
  3. If you are using compatible cartridges or compatible chips, the prompt may pop up. To avoid the prompt, you should turn off the option “Install updates automatically” in the Administration interface on the printer. For more details, please watch the videos below.

Notes:

  • For those printers with touchscreens, you can also turn off the option “install updates automatically” in the administration interface.
  • Turning off the option “install updates automatically” can effectively avoid the issue caused by firmware upgrading automatically.
