Zhono chips withstand the impact of firmware upgrades

Apr 23, 2025

From January to early April 2025, printer brands including Brother, Ricoh, Fujifilm, HP, Lexmark, and Canon released firmware updates.

After testing, Zhono’s engineers verified that its compatible chips used in these printers and copiers were not impacted by the OEM firmware upgrades, and that the chips function correctly on the printers and copiers in both previous and current models.

As of 9 April, Zhono engineers have completed rigorous testing on 36 printer models from six major OEM brands regarding their 2025 firmware updates. All Zhono chips passed the tests with a 100% success rate, remaining unaffected by the firmware updates, the company reported.

The chart below shows Zhono chips successfully passed the tests after printers and copiers were updated to the latest firmware.

In response Zhono said the reasons for its replacement chips being resistant to firmware updates, are the company’s “cutting-edge experimental equipment to test chip functionality and electrical characteristics ensures reliability in chip design” and that its “engineers continuously monitor firmware upgrades released on OEM websites, promptly notifying customers and providing solutions”.

Zhono added that its technical strength lies in “a dedicated R&D and engineering team of nearly 100 professionals focused on firmware logic and chip testing”, “24/7 rapid response capabilities to ensure immediate testing and validation upon the release of new firmware” and “100% machine testing and validation with global mainstream brands and models”.

The company concluded: “Zhono compatible chips are designed to deliver consistency across all printing machines, regardless of their brand or model. As a leading independent chip supplier, we are dedicated to providing secure and reliable chip solutions while promptly updating our customers with the latest firmware verification information. Moving forward, we will continue to monitor OEM firmware upgrades, enhance response times, and elevate the overall product service for our customers.”
