Xerox enters metal 3D printing with Vader Systems

The OEM has made a foray into the metal 3D printing world through the acquisition of a New York start-up called Vader Systems.
As WIDE FORMAT ONLINE reports, Vader Systems, led by father and son Scott and Zach, “has designed and created what’s believed to be the first liquid metal 3D printer for manufacturing.”
The company’s technology utilises wire feedstock and a “range of aluminium alloys” to print hundreds of metal droplets per second, producing parts “at rapid speeds, low cost and with minimal waste”.
Xerox announced its acquisition of Vader Systems during its 2019 Investor Day and said it is also investigating the high-speed plastics printing market.
“We are leveraging our experience and expertise in digital printing to polymer and metal 3D printing technologies and will introduce new equipment, materials, services and design tools to the market,” said Xerox.
“Manufacturing customers want to use 3-D printing, but the current offerings only serve the prototyping market well, not broad manufacturing. Xerox developed, acquired and partnered printing software and material technologies are expected to deliver the productivity, materials range and cost and design tools to enable part manufacturing.”
