February 22, 2019
The hardcopy peripherals (HCP) market across the globe declined by 4.8 percent year-on-year in Q4 2018, according to new data released by IDC.
The market decreased to approximately 26.7 million units in Q4, contends the International Data Corporation (IDC)’s Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker.
HP Inc. bucked the trend, according to IDC, with a year-on-year increase of 3.6 percent in unit shipments, expanding in its top two regional markets of the USA and APeJ (Asia-Pacific excluding Japan).
The second most successful company was Canon, with 22.3 percent market share compared to HP’s 39.6 percent. Epson was third, with 17.7 percent, whilst fourth and fifth place went to Brother and Kyocera, with 7.7 and 2 percent market share respectively.
The total inkjet market in the APeJ region recorded its eleventh consecutive quarter of year-over-year growth with 3.59 million units shipped, the highest in a quarter since Q2 2012. APeJ was the only region to have achieved positive year-over-year shipment growth this quarter.
All speed ranges of colour laser MFPs in the US experienced growth, except the 1-10 ppm and 11-20 ppm, each of which declined year over year. Canon had the highest year-over-year growth in the 21-90 ppm segment.
Increased shipments in Ink Tank devices was observed in Latin America. Q4 2018 marks the second consecutive quarter where Ink Tank machines surpassed the unit volume of ink cartridge machines. All vendors in this space recorded year over expansion.
