Canon published a notice of an Out-of-bounds vulnerability that affects some of its printer drivers.

An Out-of-bounds vulnerability was found in certain printer drivers for production printers, office/small office multifunction printers and laser printers that may prevent printing and/or potentially be able to execute arbitrary code when the print is processed by a malicious application

Affected printer drivers
Generic Plus PCL6 Printer Driver – V3.12 and earlier
Generic Plus UFR II Printer Driver – V3.12 and earlier
Generic Plus LIPS4 Printer Driver – V3.12 and earlier
Generic Plus LIPSLX Printer Driver – V3.12 and earlier
Generic Plus PS Printer Driver – V3.12 and earlier

Canon said that printer drivers designed to address the issue will be uploaded on websites of your local Canon sales representatives. Canon advises that its customers install the latest printer drivers available.

The company added: “Thank you to Microsoft Offensive Research and Security Engineering Team (MORSE) for reporting this vulnerability.”

UPDATE:
The vulnerability has now been resolved and Canon shared the following statement:
“Ensuring our customers’ printers are as secure as possible is a key priority – and when we were made aware of this vulnerability, we took immediate action. On 28th March we provided an updated printer driver, for V3.15 drivers and later, on our local and Canon Europe business support pages which we are encouraging our customers to download to fix this issue.”
