UK: 8 days of strike action at Felixstowe port
August 9, 2022
Disruption and delays are expected as Felixstowe, the UK’s largest container port, faces eight days of strike action starting on Sunday, 21 August ending on Monday, 29 August.
The Unite Union has advised that 1,900 union members working at the port of Felixstowe will begin eight days of strike action on Sunday, 21 August, over a pay dispute.
Talks broke down when the Felixstowe Dock and Railway Company, which employs the workers, failed to improve on its offer of a seven per cent pay increase. The offer is significantly below the actual (RPI) inflation rate of 11.8%. It followed a 1.4% pay award last year.
This strike follows others across Europe and is expected to have a significant knock-on effect on ocean freight across the wider UK and European supply chain.
Talks to resolve the dispute continue.
