Troy explains tray lock advantages

November 20, 2018

The security solutions company has published a new blog highlighting the importance of printer tray locks.

The locks that provide the most “significant advantages” in security terms, according to the blog, are those that are bespoke – “engineered and fitted for each respective model.”

Troy explains that these tailored tray locks can enhance printer security, as well as reduce the threat of paper stock theft, and decrease “chain of custody protocols.”

The blog states that tray locks are available either as standalone accessories, or certain printers may include them at purchase. It also offers a series of examples as to why they could become necessary.

Among these examples is protecting particular paper stock from theft, and ultimately, counterfeit; for instance, universities will want to protect diploma and transcript security stock to ensure that malcontents aren’t able to produce very convincing fake diplomas, which will then “give power and rights to people who do not have the proper education to hold such positions.”

As well as this, tray locks can save money, with paper theft eventually adding to serious financial costs if allowed to continue.

Similarly, healthcare facilities may wish to make use of tray locks to protect preprinted prescription paper from finding its way into the wrong hands, with resultant threats of fraud and drug abuse less likely with a properly secured paper tray. Troy also gives examples of other high-value stock, such as customs paperwork, IDs, birth certificates and passport-related paperwork, all of which could lead to serious counts of identity theft, counterfeiting, and even human trafficking, if remaining unsecured.
