Toshiba celebrates Earth Day year-round
April 19, 2024
Toshiba America Business Solutions commemorates Earth Day 2024 by facilitating the replanting of trees across ecologically sensitive areas worldwide while also preventing e-waste from filling open land.
Last year alone, the company was responsible for replanting 24,557 trees across the United States, Ireland, France, Tanzania, Canada, Madagascar, Dominican Republic and Malaysia while also recycling nearly 42 U.S. tons of empty toner cartridges.
By recycling 1,775 tons of e-waste since beginning its EcoSmart Toner Recycling Programme in 2008, Toshiba is accountable for preserving many open spaces. Such tonnage is equivalent to a herd of 3,944 Texas Longhorns.
Toshiba’s EcoSmart Toner Recycling Program results from its partnership with international recycler Close the Loop, which transforms spent cartridges for reuse. Many of the cartridge components return to the commodities market while other elements convert into new products including asphalt material for resurfacing roads.
Toshiba, since collaborating with PrintReleaf in 2016, is responsible for reforesting 173,723 trees within ecologically sensitive areas globally. For every 8,333 sheets printed, Toshiba clients may select where to replant a tree based on U.N. Sustainable Goal recommendations.
“Operating ecologically is paramount for Toshiba,” stated Toshiba America Business Solutions President and Chief Executive Officer Larry White. “We also want to assist our clients and business partners to function sustainably. Whether helping our clients recycle and reforest or by reducing their carbon footprint in other areas, we strive to nurture our planet each and every day.”
