Tony Critchley: In Memoriam
November 28, 2023
We announce with heartfelt sorrow the passing of Tony Critchley, a man of courage and tenacity, who, after a courageous battle with cancer, departed from this world on the 27th of November. His final moments were serene as he passed in his sleep beside his beloved wife, Nikki.
Born in July 1946, Tony’s life was a tapestry of diverse experiences. Before becoming our esteemed commercial director and a cherished friend, he served with distinction as a military policeman. His tales of service, particularly of his time in Aden, were captivating, leaving us with a legacy of stories and smiles.
Tony’s professional journey was vibrant and varied, from the disciplined ranks of the military to the dynamic world of Fleet Street advertising. He embraced the life of a gentleman farmer until adversity led him to the press industry of Oxfordshire. His dedication to The Recycler was profound, contributing significantly to the magazine and our Remax trade shows, a testament to his pride in our collective achievements.
A stint as a councillor on Oxford City Council reflected his ceaseless drive, even as he navigated the complexities of local politics with his signature business acumen. His passions extended to the golf course, the quiet of fishing, and the allure of a stylish car.
Retiring early to care for his wife Olga during her cancer battle, Tony’s strength was unwavering until her passing in 2017. He faced his cancer diagnosis with an indomitable spirit, fighting valiantly each day.
Tony’s legacy endures through his wife, Nikki, who provided unwavering care through his final years. His memory will remain with us, a beacon of resilience and camaraderie. We bid farewell to a man who was not just a colleague but a true friend. May he rest in peace.
