Sustainability: your opinion matters
October 7, 2020
The EC recently announced the start of a public consultation on the roadmap and inception impact assessment for a sustainable products initiative within the European Green Deal.
Public consultation on the roadmap and inception impact assessment for a sustainable products initiative within the European Green Deal in coordination with the Circular Economy Action Plan began on 14 September 2020.
This initiative, which will revise the Ecodesign Directive and propose additional legislative measures as appropriate, aims to make products placed on the EU market more sustainable.
Consumers, the environment and the climate will benefit from products that are more durable, reusable, repairable, recyclable, and energy-efficient. The initiative will also address the presence of harmful chemicals in products such as electronics & ICT equipment, textiles, furniture, steel, cement & chemicals.
The ‘‘European Green Deal’ is a growth strategy to transform the EU into a fairer and more prosperous society, with a modern, competitive, climate neutral and circular economy. As stated in the Commission’s strategic recovery package, in response to the dramatic and unprecedented effects of the COVID19 crisis, a collective and cohesive recovery that accelerates the twin green and digital transitions will only strengthen Europe’s competitiveness, resilience and position as a global player.
This roadmap is open for feedback for 7 weeks. Feedback will be taken into account for further development and fine tuning of the initiative. The Commission will summarise the input received in a synopsis report explaining how the input will be taken on board and, if applicable, why certain suggestions can’t be taken up.
