Spain: More e-waste crime exposed
July 10, 2020
Spanish police arrested and afterwards released five people who are associated with an Aznalcóllar company involved in the recycling of electronic material.
EL MUNDO reported that Recilec, a company that recycles WEEE has been under investigation for environmental crimes. The website said that the company is 25% owned by the Environment and Water Agency of the Junta de Andalucía.
Five people have been arrested who are associated with the company, but it is still unclear what the investigation has found. The Manager of Recilec told EL MUNDO “that the arrests and charges were made this Wednesday and would be the result of the analysis of the information seized during a search carried out a little over a year ago.”
The case is still under summary secrecy so details cannot be accessed at this time. The Manager is hoping that this will be lifted soon so the accused can prepare their defense accordingly.

Editor’s Note: It will be interesting to follow this case and see what the environmental crime was since Spain has in recent weeks become the subject of several WEEE crime related issues.
