Some Canadian schools are running out of toner

The supply shortage is being felt in some Canadian schools in the Thames Valley area where Xerox toner cartridges are reported to be in short supply.

A report by CBC has uncovered that supply chain disruptions due to the pandemic, might end in teachers being unable to hand out printed or photocopied schoolwork. Teachers from some schools in the Thames Valley area spoke to CBC and reported that they are working with Xerox to find a solution.

However, the Thames Valley District School Board did tell CBC: “We have recommended to all locations that the use of printing be minimised as much as possible and priority given to the printing of sensitive and confidential documentation.”

The shortage of Xerox photocopier toner cartridges is likely due to COVID-19 supply chain disruptions, the report said.

Our take on this: Does Xerox really have a supply chain crisis, or is there some other reason? At the same time, why isn’t the Thames Valley District School Board looking for alternative suppliers and considering remanufactured products. To blame everything on “supply chain shortages” is a cop out and is it really feasible to stop copying or printing for an “undetermined” time?
