Sharp goes solar in Mongolia

The OEM’s subsidiary, Sharp Energy Solutions Corporation, has announced the completion of a mega solar plant in Dornogovi Province.
The Zamyn-Üüd plant, in the southeast of the country, was a collaboration between Sharp, Shigemitsu Shoji Co., Ltd., and Solar Tech LLC, a Mongolian energy company.
The plant, which is the first of its kind in Mongolia, boasts an approximate output of 16.5 MW-dc, with annual power generation capacity estimated to be 31,162 MWh a year. The output from this facility is expected to allow avoided greenhouse gas emissions of 24,836 t-CO2 per year.
The new location was officially opened by Ukhnaa Khurelsukh, Prime Minister of Mongolia, earlier this summer.
Mongolia’s government is aiming for 25 percent of its power generation capacity to come from renewable sources. Back in December 2016, Sharp, in collaboration with Shigemitsu Shoji and others, completed another large-scale 10 MW-dc solar power plant.
“Sharp remains committed to spreading renewable energy around the world,” said the OEM, which has recently undertaken similar projects in both Indonesia and Vietnam.
