Seven out of 10 companies will renew their IT infrastructure

July 4, 2023

A study conducted by IDC in late 2022 found that nearly 70% of enterprises plan to renew their IT infrastructure in the next two years.

IT infrastructure is one of the main pillars of digital transformation (DX). In fact, no digital initiative can succeed without an IT transformation aligned with business strategy. Crucial to these transformational efforts are the business requirements that make DX necessary, with areas of influence now extending across many lines within enterprises: business, information technology and finance, IDC explained.

  • Business decision makers are increasingly involved in making or overseeing strategic choices for digital infrastructure.
  • CIOs govern the partnership with lines of business and ensure the achievement of business results and alignment with corporate KPIs.
  • CFOs play an increasingly important role in deciding to adopt flexible consumption models for the provision and optimization of digital infrastructure.

The overall goal is to align technology spending and digital infrastructure resource utilization with the achievement of priority business outcomes, including operational resilience and agility, cost containment, innovation, increased customer and partner engagement, and better user experience.

By 2026, 65% of technology buyers will prioritise as-a-service, predicts IDC, driving demand for flexible consumption models in various places, including public cloud, on-premises and the edge.

Paying only for the effective use of IT resources, for example with on-prem pay-per-use models, is therefore today one of the fundamental elements for supporting the development of digital business. But it’s not the only one. Automation and comprehensive coverage of the infrastructure stack, including both core and edge computing, play a crucial role in supporting the growth and success of digital enterprises.

By leveraging these elements in a synergistic way, organisations can optimise efficiency, increase agility and seize the opportunities offered by the digital economy more effectively.

IDC together with Lenovo and Econocom|Asystel Bizmatica is organising an executive roundtable on 6 July at the Phyd Hub in via Tortona in Milan. Entitled “The future of digital infrastructure: cloud, artificial intelligence and ubiquitous deployment”, the event will be introduced and moderated by Fabio Rizzotto, VP, Europe South Lead, Consulting and Custom Solutions, IDC, and will be attended by Massimo Chiriatti, Chief Technical and Innovation Officer of Lenovo Italia, and of Ferruccio Radici, DC/Cloud Infrastructure Solution & IT Services BU Director of Econocom|Asystel Bizmatica.
