Sainsbury’s goes OEM
June 7, 2018
The UK supermarket chain has dropped the Sainsbury’s brand of inkjet consumables in favour of an OEM only offering.
One eagle-eyed reader spotted that the Sainsbury’s brand of inkjet cartridges are no longer available on their website or instore. Sainsbury’s sells inkjet cartridges for the most popular Canon, Epson and HP inkjet printers in their larger stores and online. In addition to the OEM brands, Sainsbury’s had a range of Sainsbury’s branded inkjet cartridges that were produced locally in the United Kingdom.
A Sainsbury’s spokesperson said “Following a range review Sainsbury’s brand inkjet cartridges are no longer available. We regularly review our lines to make sure we’re offering customers the best possible choice, quality and value.”
A mixed message? Sainsbury’s like other UK retailers has been in the press regarding the amount of single-use plastics they produce and have made some big commitments to reduce single-use plastics. The Sainsbury’s environment statement on their website is “We care about our planet and the effect that both we, and our global suppliers, have on the environment. So we’re reducing our emissions, our water use and our waste.”
The UK remanufacturer that supplied Sainsbury’s had not responded to our comment request by the time we published this story.
