Recyclia attends Valencia WEEE Congress
October 17, 2018
The city of Valencia recently hosted the National Congress of Waste Management of Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE).
The meeting took place at the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía from 4-5 October 2018. Various key figures involved in the management of WEEE were in attendance, including producers, distributors, waste managers and public administrations.
These included 300 professionals from within the sector and around 50 speakers, who participated throughout the two days in various round tables. These addressed the impact on the recycling of electronic waste by the transition to a production model based on the so-called circular economy, as well as focusing on the contribution to this objective of the collective systems of Spain which are dedicated to electronic waste management.
The organisers of this environmental meeting were the Collective Systems of Extended Responsibility of the Producer of Electrical and Electronic Devices (SCRAP): AMBILAMP, ECOASIMELEC, ECOFIMÁTICA, ECOLEC, ECOLUM, ECO-RAEE’S, ECOTIC and EUROPEAN RECYCLING PLATFORM, in collaboration with the General Directorate of Climate Change and Environmental Quality of the Ministry of Agriculture, Environment, Climate Change and Rural Development of the Generalitat Valenciana.
The Congress that was held in Valencia was the follow-up to the first event of this kind, which was held in 2017 in Antequera.
One of the novelties of this year, according to Recyclia, was the sustainable development aspect of the event, as criteria and good practices were introduced in terms of sustainability, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of WEEE.
In addition, Recyclia relates, the integration of all the aspects covered by the Congress resulted in numerous environmental benefits, as well as in the improvement of the image and of the international projection of the Congress itself.
