Print-Rite Europe and PRPS get ahead on UKCA marking

October 4, 2021

Print-Rite Europe (PRE) and PRP Solutions GmbH (PRPS) are already onboard and ready with the UK Governments new UK certification following Brexit.

The UKCA marking replaces the EU wide CE mark certification of a manufacturer’s conformity with European health, safety and environmental protection standards. As a result of Brexit, the UK is replacing the CE mark with the new UKCA marking for Great Britain. A UKNI mark would apply to Northern Ireland. Initially, the UKCA and UKNI marks would have applied to all goods and businesses by the end of 2021.

Following lobbying by several organisations, the UK government has given organisations an extra year to start using the UKCA and UKNI marking that applies to all goods.

Businesses were due to begin using the UKCA marking by the end of this year (2021). The UK Department of Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) has now announced the extension, recognising “the impact of the pandemic on businesses.”

Businesses must take action to ensure they are ready to apply UKCA and the UKNI  markings by 1 January 2023, the final deadline, the BEIS said.

PRE and PRPS announced that although the introduction of the legislation, which will allow CE marked goods to continue to be placed on the British market until 1st January 2023, PRPS are on board and ready with the new UKCA mark going forward.

The company explained: “PRE and PRPS will continue selling goods in UK under the CE mark as the UKCA mark is only compulsory for new products to be sold in UK and for replacement stocks imported after CE marked products are sold or after 31st December 2021.

“Thereafter we will apply a UKCA label. All certifications and compliance markings will continue to be shown on PRPs packaging including the CE mark for UK sales, including WEEE and RohS. The UKCA mark will be positioned alongside (and not replace) the current CE marking.”

Anyone having questions concerning PRPS’s compliance to UKCA or verification of compliance can email the request to Joachim Kretschmer JKretschmer@PRP-eu.com.
