PCL Direct leads with innovative sustainability efforts

April 10, 2024

Ian McIntyre from PCL Direct Group

Ian McIntyre of PCL Direct Group reveals the company’s ambitious sustainability targets and innovative practices, demonstrating how refurbishing and recycling can pave the way for a greener future.

In a recent discussion with Ian McIntyre, Sales Director at PCL Direct Group, the focus was on the company’s strides toward sustainability and their commitment to achieving net-zero emissions. McIntyre shed light on various aspects of the company’s approach, from refurbishing OEM components to advocating for the circular economy. Here’s how the conversation unfolded:

Ian, can you share the targets PCL Direct has set towards achieving net-zero and the progress you have made so far?

Ian McIntyre: Certainly. At PCL Direct, sustainability is at the core of our operations. We’ve dedicated ourselves to enhancing the reliability of refurbished OEM components, preventing waste, and ensuring nothing we handle ends up in landfills. Our affiliation with ETIRA underscores our commitment to stringent quality and sustainability standards. We’re pushing boundaries, aiming to expand our remanufacturing capabilities, and continuously seeking third-party endorsements to solidify our dedication to sustainability.

There’s a growing debate on carbon offsetting versus carbon reduction strategies. What is your take on this, and how is PCL Direct addressing greenhouse gas emissions?

Ian McIntyre: It’s a complex issue. Carbon offsetting has its place, but the real, measurable impact comes from direct carbon reduction strategies. That’s where we focus our efforts—reducing plastic usage, recycling, upcycling, and ensuring our remanufactured products leave no environmental trace. We believe in making tangible, measurable changes to our carbon footprint.

How does PCL Direct support the circular economy and reduce the carbon footprint of acquiring printing devices?

Ian McIntyre: Our strategy is multifaceted. We’ve established partnerships with UK dealers to source machines that would otherwise be discarded. Our central re-manufacturing facility in Nuneaton allows for efficient processing, and through our EcoDirect brand, we offer re-engineered, upcycled printing devices that meet the highest standards of quality and sustainability. This not only extends the life of these devices but also offers a sustainable alternative to our partners and their customers.

With the rise in consumer demand for sustainable products, how are you enabling your channel partners to meet this demand?

Ian McIntyre: Through our EcoDirect range, we provide our channel partners with a viable option to offer their customers. These machines, upcycled to the highest standards, represent a sustainable, cost-effective alternative to new or purely second-hand devices. We’re not just offering products; we’re offering a sustainable solution that aligns with the growing market demand for eco-friendly options.

The conversation with Ian McIntyre highlights PCL Direct’s proactive approach to sustainability, is showcasing their efforts in carbon reduction, waste prevention, and supporting the circular economy. As consumer awareness and demand for sustainable solutions grow, PCL Direct’s initiatives serve as a benchmark for the industry, demonstrating that environmental responsibility and business success can go hand in hand.
