MPS: new report reveals compliance issues
August 14, 2018
Nubeprint has released its most recent MPS compliance report, which reveals that printers and copiers are still not capable of monitoring their own activity.
Nubeprint has been publishing its MPS compliance reports since July 2011, “sharing with the industry its knowledge of monitoring output printing devices.”
In this latest report, released last month, Nubeprint has explained that, as in 2011, printers and copiers are still not “self-sufficient” enough to monitor their own activity, with “many factors” having a “relevant impact”, causing a distortion that would prevent an MPS business from effectively managing its resources.
Nubeprint explains that it has recently launched its own monitoring technology which is “external to a printer and can be distributed with the cartridge.” This technology allows users to “easily get information” about a variety of factors, including “volume printed, remaining printing capacity and actual performances of the cartridges”.
In the introduction to its report, Nubeprint goes on to state that, “The longer the printer is kept, the higher is the impact of consumables in the total cost of ownership. For this reason it is more and more critical to analyse the effectiveness of the cartridges used to print.”
It goes on to say that “The Nubeprint MPS Compliance Report should be of interest to value how complex it is to manage the install base of printers and copiers.”
This particular edition of the report includes “special content”, offering a “thorough analysis” of the performance of ink cartridges in business ink MFP: HP PageWide and Epson WorkForce.”
Nubeprint explains that the report’s analysis “focuses on the ability of the printer to provide sufficient data so that an advanced MPS technology can potentially drive the services.” The company goes on to say, “As shown in the Report, the MPS compliant ratio is used by Nubeprint to identify the weaknesses of each printer model in the environment of a managed print service contract, which is then improved by Nubeprint tools.”
As with previous reports, 51 manufacturers’ products were incorporated in this edition. 65 percent of the products analysed were MFP, 30 percent were printers, 4 percent were LFP and 1 percent was ribbon. For the first time, Nubeprint also incorporated some new garment printers. Overall, the company explained, 51 percent of the machines analysed are colour and 49 percent are monochrome.
The report states that “Overall, the vast majority of the printer models in the market have a problem of compliance to MPS.” In most cases, “this is the result of the lack of relevant information that is needed for remote management.”
Just 38 percent of printer models offer enough information and 1 percent “do not provide even the most basic data fields”.
However, the “percentage of non-compliant models has continuously decreased since Nubeprint started to publish this Report in 2011, proving the effort of the device manufacturers to improve the remote connectivity for managing their printer and copiers.”
