Marco celebrates 50th anniversary
January 4, 2023
Marco is celebrating its 50th anniversary on 15 January 2023.
The company was founded in St. Cloud in 1973 and got its start selling typewriters, supplies, and office furniture. What started as a two-person team has now expanded to include over 1200 employees, serving clients in 12 states.
Although Marco has a long history of putting client and employee satisfaction first, the growing company explained that it formalised the process of collecting regular feedback from its employees in 1988 and its clients in 1994. Input from all stakeholders, including its internal staff, has been collected and reviewed, and ultimately used to improve the company’s offerings and guide its major decisions.
Doug Albregts, CEO of Marco, stated, “Marco’s approach to staying competitive in an increasingly difficult market would be counterintuitive for the way that many CEOs approach growth strategies. We put our focus on doing the very best we can for our clients, as well as finding ways to make work purposeful and rewarding for our employees…and when we do that, great things happen! Marco’s Gold Standard has been our blueprint for success for all 50 years of our existence.”
Marco said its Gold Standard consists of four pillars: employee engagement, client satisfaction, community support, and vendor partnerships. The company currently has earned a net promoter score of 91% and prioritises employee recognition, mentorship, and professional development.
And while the company has certainly made headlines for its achievements and strategic partnerships, its name also frequently appears on regional newspapers’ lists of best places to work. This year, the Star Tribune and the St. Louis Post Dispatch named Marco as a Top Workplace in their regions. The company was also featured among Energage’s Top 200 Workplaces in Minnesota in 2022.
