Making the most of your print fleet
February 15, 2018
A recent Cartridge World blog offers tips for businesses on how to optimise their print fleet.
As the blog explains, office printing is a significant business expense for many companies, and “although businesses of all sizes typically have a multitude of printers”, not many have an optimised print environment, resulting in the wastage of both working hours and money.
With this in mind, Cartridge World has come up with 4 different ways businesses can make the most of their print fleet, regardless of how many devices they have.
1.Appraising your current environment
Begin by taking stock of your current print environment and gaining an understanding of each device’s performance in order to determine whether or not one may need to be replaced. Find out the “ideal utilisation range” for your printers, as if a device’s usage does not match up with its “recommended use”, it may be time to “get rid of that device altogether.”
2. Update ageing machines
Older printers “are more likely to break or have regular problems”, so many printer providers “recommend updating or replacing printers that are 7 years old or more.”
3. Standardise the model of printer your business uses
The benefits of standardisation are “many”, including the minimisation of invoicing as well as “vendor management and training”, and a reduction in “potential employee downtime” as staff will be better able to remember the troubleshooting procedures for one specific printer model as opposed to many.
4. Consolidate the equipment
Consolidation “can come in many forms”, including reducing the total number of machines or swapping single-function printers for MFPs. Doing this will create more space in your office and will “cut down on repair, maintenance and operational costs.”
