Lexmark recalls printers over fire risk
January 17, 2025
Manufacturer advises immediate halt in usage pending free repair.
Lexmark International has announced the recall of 43,510 specialty printers in the United States, citing a fire hazard stemming from a dislodged metal component inside the devices. The recall, conducted in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), covers the MS725dvn and MX725adve models. An additional 4,000 units sold in Canada are also included in the recall.
The company has received two reports of the printers overheating, including one incident that resulted in a fire. No injuries or significant property damage have been reported. Consumers are advised to stop using the affected printers immediately and to contact Lexmark for a free repair. The remedy involves installing a part that snaps into the rear access panel of the printer.
The affected printers were sold between June 2018 and November 2024, priced between $1,000 and $4,200. They were available via Lexmark’s website and distributors such as CDW Logistics, Tech Data Product Management Inc., and Insight Direct USA Inc.
While the recall currently applies to units sold in North America, these printer models are also marketed in Europe, including Germany, through Lexmark’s regional operations. However, no recall has been announced for Europe at this time. European customers concerned about potential risks are encouraged to contact Lexmark’s local customer support for further clarification.
For more information, consumers can contact Lexmark toll-free at 866-470-1574, email safety@lexmark.com, or visit www.lexmark.com/recall. European customers can find additional support via their local Lexmark websites or offices.
