Kyocera completes drum production plant

The OEM has announced the completion of its new fully automated plant for OPC photosensitive drum production in China.

Kyocera has revealed that it has finished construction on its new OPC drum plant in Dongguan, Guangdong, which has been in development since the summer of las year.

As Kyocera’s major production facility, the plant will produce OPC drums, MFPs, and printers, with the increased production of OPC drums being driven by increasing orders for MFPs and printers.

The three-storey building covers an area of 11,400m2, and is described as being “eco-friendly”, owing to its built-in recycling systems that treat both drainage water, and the exhaust gases that are generated ruing production. The manufacturing process has been almost fully automated, and with new production equipment as well, the OEM is hoping to expand capability by more than two and a half times the current capacity by 2020.

Susumu Komaki, Kyocera Document Technology’s General Manager, said: “Now we can secure the drum production capacity to satisfy increasing demand for MFPs and printers in emerging markets with the completion of this new plant. We will nevertheless further improve the overall productivity in the plant, by actively promoting automation and adopting the Internet of Things in the production of not only drums, but also MFPs and printers.”
