Keypoint unveils new certification programmes

May 14, 2025

Keypoint Intelligence used The Recycler Live 2025 conference in Tallinn to unveil two new certification programmes designed to raise quality benchmarks for remanufactured cartridges and refurbished print hardware.

The two-tier certification scheme marks a strategic intervention by Keypoint Intelligence to support transparency and performance in the print supply chain. The first, a Remanufactured Supplies Certification Programme, evaluates toner and inkjet cartridges against international ISO standards for yield, image quality, and reliability. Products passing the assessment must demonstrate a defect rate below 2%, offering assurance to resellers and end-users concerned about consistency in remanufactured alternatives.

The second, a Remanufactured/Refurbished Facility Certification Programme, focuses on the production environment. Targeting up to ten device engine families, the scheme certifies entire remanufacturing operations. It measures build quality, image output, data sanitisation, and device reliability—including performance when using recycled media.

Devices are selected at random from inventory without prior notice, sealed, and shipped to Keypoint Intelligence’s testing laboratories. A single failed unit results in failure of the entire engine series for certification purposes—an approach designed to drive up standards across the board.

“We’ve seen growing interest in verified product quality from both the supply side and the buyer side,” said David Sweetnam, Keypoint Intelligence. “This certification provides clarity in a market where performance and trust matter more than ever.”

Alongside the certification launches, Keypoint presented findings from its “Print in Your Lifestyle” study, which surveyed 1,200 hybrid workers across the UK, US, and Germany. Despite increased digitisation, the results show 70% of respondents still view printing as essential in their day-to-day work and home lives.

The Tallinn event will bring together key players from the remanufacturing, supply, and compliance sectors for two days of networking, panels, and policy debate. The Recycler Awards and a new Trade Day format will round out the agenda, reflecting the industry’s continued shift toward sustainable, high-quality, circular print solutions.
