Katun responds to Canon’s European patent lawsuit
July 16, 2024
On 12 July, Canon announced it filed a new patent infringement lawsuit with the Unified Patent Court.
Canon filed a complaint against Katun and GPI with the Local Division Du?sseldorf of the Unified Patent Court asserting potential patent infringement of Canon’s European Patent 3 686 683 B1 (“EP’683”).
According to Canon, the complaint demonstrates how several of Katun’s toner bottles comprise the features defined in the enforced claims of EP’683, thereby making use of the teaching of EP’683.
Katun has now responded. “Katun is confident the products it is selling and distributing for use in Canon applications are non-infringing and will work diligently to reach resolution on the issue with Canon,” said William McIntyre, General Counsel for Katun Corporation.
“For more than 45 years, Katun has led the aftermarket industry in providing IP-compliant, high-quality products,” continued McIntyre. “Working together with our owners, GPI in Taiwan, we continue to invest significant resources into ensuring IP-compliance, including using robust processes and procedures, employing several intellectual property specialists, and relying on our significant subject matter expertise.”
