Katun highlights sustainability efforts

Katun EMEA, one of the world’s leading alternative suppliers to the office equipment industry, highlights the many ways the company contributes to the preservation of the planet.
Throughout Katun’s 42 years in the imaging supplies industry, environmental impact has always been a key factor in business practice. Primarily specialising in remanufactured toners and drum units, Katun participates in the circular economy by diverting used product from landfill and remanufacturing to high standards.
As an ETIRA member, Katun explained that its remanufacturing processes adhere to stringent policies and regulations and are produced with rigorous quality checks in place. In 2008, Katun extended its eco-friendly approach by offering OEM-refilled toners for select machines, reusing valuable plastics and preventing their unnecessary disposal. To support the demand of these products and to encourage wider recycling, Katun offers dealer customers the opportunity to work with specialist collections partners across Europe to collect and recycle OEM A3, A4 toners and A3 drums.
Most recently, Katun further expanded its commitment to the environment by introducing an eco-friendly line of products produced using 95% recycled plastics.
In addition to toners and drum units, Katun has a range of remanufactured printers and MFP’s in the eco-friendly portfolio. The company explained that these machines look and perform like brand new products, thanks to a careful and thorough remanufacturing process. As well as being a great cost-saving alternative, these machines have an overall reduced environmental impact of 77% compared to a brand new product. The impressive remanufacturing process can be seen via Katun’s YouTube channel (scan QR code).
Other initiatives that Katun offers, enable their customers to make “green” choices, include the “Print IT, Plant IT” Reforestation programme provided by PrintReleaf. This automatically measures connected devices’ paper consumption totals through third-party integrations and converts to a number of trees using a verified calculation. Each tree accumulated can then be realistically planted in an allocated forest of choice using the personalized online dashboard. Reforestation is important not only from a sustainability stance but also for a healthy environment and climate control.
Katun added that it is also dedicated to promoting environmentally friendly practices in the workplace and with its employees. From recycling at home to cycling to work, staff are encouraged to share their personal green contributions in order to be rewarded with “Katun Green Ambassador” status. The company also only use recycled pallets in their European Distribution Centre in The Netherlands, a sustainable, CO2 emission reducing solution certified by Palletcentrale Groep B.V.
