HP’s ACF bags more success in India

October 13, 2020

The OEM’s Anti Counterfeiting and Fraud (ACF) Programme for the EMEA announced it has seized counterfeit supplies worth $6 million (€5.08 million) within nine months.

Only last month, HP reported on its anti-counterfeiting efforts in Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Singapore. The OEM said that through its Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud Programme the company seized $2.5 million (€2.14 million) counterfeit products and delisted over 12,800 online sites in the last seven months.

HP India now announced the results of its ACF Programme, combatting the production, distribution, and sale of counterfeit ink and toner printing supplies in the region.

CRN India reported: “With the global pandemic resulting in a lockdown, counterfeiters had moved focus to online platforms. During this period, the HP ACF team kept vigil on e-purchases and this online surveillance resulted in the identification of websites dealing in counterfeit goods.”

As a result of these efforts, HP’s ACF Programme managed to identify and de-list 10,000 websites selling counterfeit supplies.

Through its regular customer audits and local authorities, HP managed to seize illicit goods worth more than $6 million (€5.08 million) between November 2019 and July 2020. CRN India added: “Of note was a single raid on a syndicate in Mumbai, where seizures in excess of $3 million (€2.54 million) were made. A The authorities also made total of 78 raids during this period, which resulted in 68 arrests.”

There have been over 12 million counterfeits and components seized throughout the EMEA during the past years by local authorities backed by HP Inc and the OEM itself has conducted more than 4,500 “audits and inspections of partners stocks or suspicious deliveries”.

HP Inc’s ACF programme is responsible for educating its customers and partners on what to look out for in counterfeit products and works closely with local and worldwide law enforcements to find and destroy illegal operations that produce fake HP Inc printing consumables.
