HP sending cease and desist letters?
January 23, 2018
Actionable Intelligence has reported that HP has been sending cease and desist letters to German remanufacturers.
A story published this week by Action Intell reports that the OEM has been issuing cease and desist letters to “an unknown number” of cartridge remanufacturers in Germany. Described by Action Intell as “an interesting new phase” in patent-enforcement on behalf of the OEM, supposedly these letters contain a warning that the remanufacturers “will face a lawsuit unless they cease the sale of certain non-HP inkjet cartridges that the OEM asserts infringe its patent rights.”
HP has already caused problems for remanufacturers in the course of the last year, by releasing firmware that blocks third party cartridges, as well as publishing an inaccurate pamphlet issued last year in which the OEM made misleading statements about the quality of remanufactured cartridges.
However, if the reports of the cease and desist letters are substantiated, this will prove to be a new step in HP’s battle against remanufacturers.
Have you received a letter from HP? If so, get in touch and let us know.
