JetWorld and OXE toner cartridges confirmed to continue working following HP’s latest firmware update.
HP has released a new firmware update, version 2512A, for its laser printers, affecting users of cartridge models HP CF259 and W2030/1/2/3. The update, issued on 27 May 2025, has raised concerns within the aftermarket community, with fears of potential lock-outs or compatibility issues.
Polish supplier THI confirmed that its JetWorld and OXE branded cartridges remain fully compatible with the latest firmware.
HP’s firmware policies remain under scrutiny from industry groups and remanufacturers, who argue that such updates can unfairly disadvantage consumers and independent suppliers.
Firmware updates have previously disrupted the use of third-party consumables by rendering chips unreadable or generating error messages. End users are advised to check the firmware version installed on their device before updating and consult suppliers for compatibility confirmation.
Users wishing to avoid automatic firmware updates can disable them via the printer’s settings menu or through the HP Smart app. On many models, navigate to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Update Printer, then set Allow Updates to ‘No’ or ‘Off’. Some updates may still be pushed via Wi-Fi unless the printer is disconnected from the network.
