April 30, 2018
The OEM has been named the winner of the 2018 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Award for Product Brand Owner.
According to HP, the award is recognition for its “environmental leadership in IT equipment.” The honour was bestowed at a Washington D.C. ceremony attended by the United States’ Environmental Protection Agency and the US Department of Energy. It was accepted on HP’s behalf by Nate Hurst, the company’s Chief Sustainability and Social Impact Officer, Kasia Witkowski, Director of HP-Government Relations in the Americas, and Katherine Hand, HP Sustainable Impact’s Global Head of Strategic Communications.
The ENERGY STAR programme is run by the EPA, and is described as “America’s resource for saving energy and protecting the environment.” It certifies products, plants, homes and buildings according to their energy-saving capabilities and claimed to have helped save over $30 billion (€24.8 billion) in costs and 400 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity in 2016.
The EPA praised HP’s “continued commitment to designing and manufacturing high-efficiency products” and its range of ENERGY STAR certified products, which totalled almost 800 last year, including most of its printer line. The OEM was also lauded for its continued innovation into energy efficiency, doubling the number of its computer monitors that meet the ENERGY STAR Most Efficient criteria.
Bill Wehrum, the Assistant Administrator for Air and Radiation at the EPA, said: “The 2018 ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year have demonstrated real leadership, showing how American families and businesses can save energy, save money, and reduce air emissions.”
