Online stores are advising customers to not upgrade the recent printer firmware updates to avoid cartridges not being recognised and to also turn off the printer auto-update feature.
On the 14th of July HP released two firmware updates. The first firmware update is for the for the 903/907 inkjet range. The firmware version related to this is 2225AR.
The second firmware update is for their 952/953/954/955/957 inkjet range 952/953/954/955/957. The firmware version related to this is 2224BR.
In both cases, the update does require the user to actively enable the installation of the firmware update and cartridges and chips produced before June 2022 may be affected.
The firmware updates are delivered via the printers Wi-Fi connection and a pop-up box informs the user that the update is available. The message “Non-HP cartridge” and if prompted, users should decline the firmware update option.
Users are advised to guard against future releases of firmware by saying “NO” to installing firmware updates.
