HP launches enhanced security labels to combat widespread counterfeit consumables, protecting dealers and consumers.
HP has rolled out new security labels on its printer supplies, including ink and toner cartridges, to fight the growing issue of counterfeiting in the industry. The labels feature holographic elements that transform when tilted and a QR code for instant validation, helping users confirm the authenticity of the products. Additionally, the packaging includes tamper-resistant seals and secure chips with proprietary firmware that guards against unauthorized third-party use.
An industry source, who tracks counterfeit products, and we have agreed to keep his details confidential, highlights that this measure addresses a significant concern. As much as a third of the cartridges purchased by dealers in some markets are often found to be counterfeit.
HP’s free Customer Delivery Inspection (CDI) service, designed for large orders, helps detect “spoofing”—fraudulent attempts to pass off counterfeit goods as genuine HP products. This on-site inspection service has become crucial as counterfeit cartridges can lead to hardware damage and degraded print quality, all while misleading customers into believing they are buying genuine supplies?.
