Here comes the sun for Kyocera
May 17, 2018
Kyocera TCL Solar, an offshoot of Kyocera and the Tokyo Century Corporation, has completed construction of a brand new solar power plant in Japan.
According to Power Technology, construction first began on the site in Yonago City, Tottori Prefecture, back in September 2015.
The site measures 1.2 kilometres square, and was originally designated as a golf course. Following the installation of 108,504 solar modules, the site has the energy-generation capacity of 36,080 MWh a year – enough to power roughly 12,000 households in the region. This electricity will then be sold to Chugoku Electric Power Company.
As part of the construction, Kyocera TCL Solar “optimised its installation methods to suit the regional weather conditions” – Tottori Prefecture often receives short hours of sunlight due to its coastal climate. This optimisation “ensured that sufficient power is generated to meet local residents.”
The plant, in which Kyocera holds a 19 percent stake, is the sixty-third solar power plant established across Japan since Kyocera TCL Solar was founded in 2012.
