Hardcopy Peripherals market keeps growing
May 31, 2018
New data released by the International Data Corporation has shown a continued positive trajectory for the HCP market in the first quarter of 2018.
The IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker shows that worldwide shipments increased by 1.7 percent in Q1 of 2018, reaching nearly 23.8 million units, and representing a sixth consecutive quarter of year-on-year growth for the market.
There was individual growth in both the inkjet and laser unit shipments too, increasing by 2.1 percent and 1 percent, respectively.
Out of the eight IDC regional markets, five of them recorded year-on-year growth in Q1, with the Middle East & Africa seeing the highest increase, of 19.6 percent – 1.6 million units.
The inkjet segment’s 2.1 percent growth was in a large part due to a 9.7 growth in the business inkjet market, whilst both A4 and A3 MFP laser markets grew, in colour and mono, by 1.9 percent and 4 percent, respectively.
Looking at the OEMs, HP Inc. saw growth of 4.2 percent globally, performing particularly well in the USA, China, and India. In Asia Pacific (excluding Japan), Epson was knocked off top spot by Canon, which saw 9.1 percent increases year-on-year, shipping 1.17 million units, its highest regional total ever, which IDC attributes largely to “the new G and TS series devices launched last quarter that are starting to gain traction.” Canon is now second only to HP, overtaking Epson after a worldwide growth of 5.6 percent. The Top Five of OEMs is completed by Brother, in fourth, which bucked the trend with a slight dip of 0.2 percent, compared to Q1 of 2017, and Kyocera in fifth, which saw overall growth of 4.1 percent.
