Google Chrome to feature N-up printing?
February 26, 2018
A possible change in the browser has been reported, allowing use of the layout strategy.
xda developers report that an upcoming version of Google Chrome will offer N-up printing, a page layout strategy that allows several pages of a document to be printed compositely on a single sheet of paper, thus reducing the total amount of paper needed whilst preserving the content of the document.
The website reports that “a merged commit in the Chromium Gerrit […] suggests N-up printing is being added in a flag” and that “since the feature will be hidden in Chrome’s flag page initially, it’s considered to be in active development until it makes its way to the stable version of Chrome.”
N-up printing employs various strategies to composite multiple pages onto one single page, including size reduction, rotation and rearrangements. It has proved useful for businesses that commonly print hundreds or thousands of sheets every day, and has been used for publications such as the Compact Oxford English Dictionary, which would ordinarily run to dozens of volumes.
