The OEM has announced a partnership with Tokyo Metro Co Ltd to install office spaces on subway station platforms.

The small, one-person kiosks resemble telephone booths, and are designed for commuting workers who need to telework, according to Japan Today, with the aim of helping workers more effectively use their travel time.

Each booth will contain a small personal desk and chair, along with an LCD display, power outlets, and charge-free wireless LAN. They will allow the user to focus on their work and make phone calls, “without worrying about information leakage.”

The booths can be unlocked via smartphone, and can be reserved through a smartphone or personal computer, with user information having to be registered in advance. Usage time will be allocated in fifteen minute blocks.

The booths’ trial period will run from June until the end of September, after which Fuji Xerox and Tokyo Metro will assess user needs, the facilities’ usability, and the efficiency of the reservation system.
