Hyderabad civic body recycles tonnes of electronics, promoting sustainability and urban waste management.
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) in India, has cleared 2.5 tonnes of accumulated electronic waste from its head office, in a major push for sustainability under the Reduce-Reuse-Recycle (RRR) initiative and Swachh Bharat Mission.
According to the Deccan Chronicle, the clearance, undertaken at the administration building’s IT department, included over 6,500 cartridges, 2,900 chargers, 2,300 printers, 2,500 GSM antennas, 1,200 batteries and other components such as keypads, keyboards, LCD screens, and network accessories.
The e-waste was transported to Dundigal, home to Asia’s first LEED Platinum-certified recycling facility, where valuable metals will be extracted using environmentally sound practices.
