Fujifilm to start remanufacturing in Europe
May 30, 2024
Fujifilm has launched the Circular Manufacturing Centre to promote reuse and starts with collecting and remanufacturing toner cartridges.
FUJIFILM Business Innovation (Fujifilm) has announced the establishment of the Circular Manufacturing Centre (CMC) at FUJIFILM Manufacturing Europe B.V. in the Netherlands. This move follows the company’s increased sales of digital colour multifunction printers in the European market that began in April 2024. The new manufacturing centre will collect used toner cartridges from printers and remanufacture new toner cartridges starting in June 2024.
The company said the used toner cartridges collected from printers sold in Europe will be disassembled, cleaned, and inspected after collection and then remanufactured as new toner cartridges for shipping in the European region. The company also plans to expand these remanufacturing processes to other products, such as remanufactured multifunction printers and spare parts for production printers.
FUJIFILM Manufacturing Europe B.V. has been manufacturing various Fujifilm products for more than 40 years. It is located in the Netherlands and collects used products in Europe and sells them as new.
The company said it sources all its electricity needs for the CMC from on-site wind power generation and a purchased wind power generation company. Therefore, the newly established CMC can also achieve virtually zero CO2 emissions from the electricity it uses.
Our take on this: With the recent announcement that the EU has given its final approval to the landmark ecodesign regulation that will significantly broaden the scope of sustainable product requirements. It will be interesting to see how the other OEMs respond as the ecodesign legislation evolves.
