French eco-organisations join forces in new collective

Jun 11, 2025

22 approved eco-organisations, including Ecologic, have formed a non-profit group to support the development of reuse and recycling sectors under the country’s evolving EPR framework.

A new French association, Le Collectif des Éco-Organismes, has been created to unite 22 of the country’s state-approved eco-organisations. The initiative was formally launched on 4 June and aims to strengthen collective action and promote clarity, cooperation and long-term investment across France’s extended producer responsibility (EPR) sectors.

The founding members include organisations active across various waste streams, from packaging and textiles to electronics, batteries, tyres and medical waste. Notable members include Ecologic, Ecosystem, Citeo, Refashion, Ecomaison, Batribox, Soren, and Valdelia.

According to the group’s joint statement, the Collective’s mission is twofold. First, it aims to pool experience and know-how across the member organisations and to make joint proposals to improve the national framework under which French eco-organisations operate. Second, it wants to create a common voice, helping public authorities and industry stakeholders better understand the role, limits and potential of the current EPR model.

The move comes as the French government continues to expand and reform its REP (Responsabilité Élargie du Producteur) sectors. In response, the 22 founding members want greater structural visibility and clearer objectives.

The statement notes: “The eco-organisations reaffirm, through the creation of the Collective, their responsibility on behalf of the member producers and distributors… as well as their vision of an EPR model that values the action of those placing them on the market and recognises their contribution to the responsible use of resources.”

Particular emphasis is placed on job creation, industrial capacity, and local economic benefits. The group believes that, by joining forces, it can better advocate for the tools and investments needed to make France’s reuse and recycling sectors more effective, more circular, and more competitive.

The Collective is registered as a non-profit under French law (loi 1901) and will operate as an equal association of approved eco-organisations. The founding members have committed to ongoing dialogue with public institutions and sector stakeholders and plan to develop guidance, data and insights jointly in the coming months.

Further information is available directly from the participating members, including contact points at Ecomaison, Citeo, Valdelia and Soren.
