August 29, 2023

In Memoriam: Jörgen Wonisch, visionary founder and CEO of Greenman AB, leaves behind a legacy of excellence.

The European office reuse community mourns the loss of Jörgen Wonisch, the visionary founder and CEO of Greenman AB, who passed away over the weekend at 64. His passing marks the end of an era for the company he and his wife built from the ground up.

Jörgen Wonisch, a former air traffic controller at F13, co-founded Greenman AB with his wife in their living room in 1991. Their journey from humble beginnings to an internationally renowned company is a testament to their unwavering dedication and entrepreneurial spirit.

Known for his meticulous planning and commitment to orderliness, Jörgen applied the same precision to his business that he did during his time in the air traffic control tower. His ethos of always having a Plan A, B, and preferably C became the cornerstone of Greenman AB’s operations.

Greenman AB has grown significantly under Jörgen’s leadership, thanks to his unparalleled industry knowledge and relentless pursuit of excellence. He played a pivotal role in shaping the company into a prominent player in the global market.

In a heartfelt tribute, his daughter Jenny, who now leads the company, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work alongside her father and the remarkable team that Jörgen had assembled over the years. “Dad’s shoes will still always be a few sizes too big for me to manage to fill completely,” she said, reflecting on the immense legacy her father leaves behind.

The news of Jörgen’s passing has come as a shock to many, as he valiantly battled a disease that he chose to keep private, sparing only his closest family from the burden. With over 30 years of experience in the industry, Jörgen’s contributions have left an indelible mark, having fostered numerous successful partnerships and collaborations.

Colleagues, friends, and partners of Jörgen Wonisch remember him not just as a brilliant entrepreneur but as a compassionate and dedicated individual. His commitment to the industry and unwavering dedication to his craft will be missed.

“Jörgen was a visionary who drove to position his company to be green, long before green was a thing. His forethought, business acumen and eye for detail and his leadership skills has made Greenman a market leader. Yet for all that drive he had a joy for life and was the life and soul of any business gathering, and most of all, he was both inquisitive and supportive of others. He will be missed, and we send our condolences to Jenny and her family and the Greenman team.” – David Connett, Former Editor and Publisher of The Recycler.

“Jörgen was a highly valued member of ETIRA, and his company, Greenman (greeman.se), has been a cornerstone of our community. As a dedicated Board member, Jörgen consistently contributed valuable insights and guidance to our organization. His passing is an immeasurable loss for the industry.
