Flora Delaney offers 7 secrets to retail success
March 4, 2019
The Recycler’s Retail columnist, Flora Delaney, has released a new book providing “7 Timeless Principles” that serve as the pillars to achieving success in the world of retail.
Delaney, a retail expert and consultant with experience across the globe helping retailers fix their operations, says retail success comes from these 7 Timeless Principles, which she has written about in her new book, RETAIL: The Second Oldest Profession.
“I’m tired of people telling us retail is dead – it is as much a part of our world and culture as ever. While stores and chains scurry to capture customer data and make their store or website as attractive as possible, the truth is, like most of us, shoppers are consistently disappointed in their experiences in stores and online.
“The reason is that retailers have stopped focusing on the 7 Timeless Principles that make great stores,” says author, Flora Delaney, “Whether it is because a chain loses its visionary founder or because the wrong things are emphasised with employees, retailers forget their strategy and loses focus on the 7 Timeless Principles. It spells doom – for shoppers and the bottom line.”
In the book, every chapter recounts stories and real-world examples about how stores capture our wallets and create lasting habits with their shoppers. Every topic from customer service to pricing to hiring employees is set in a retail environment everyone recognises. The end of each of the 70 subtopics within the book includes a “WIN Today” section that gives store owners, managers and employees specific things they can do re-focus on what really matters.
Delaney’s publication has already been receiving positive reviews:
“It is what has been needed in the retail world: A real world guide based on real experience!” Rudy Simondi- District Manager.
“If you’re a small retailer, you may feel like an endangered species. But following these practical principles will give you command over new skills for winning in retail now and in the future.” – Amanda Brinkman, small business marketing expert and Host of the Small Business Revolution – Main Street.
The book is described as being ideal for anyone who:
- Owns their own retail business– and wears many hats
- Manages a team that is always busy – but is not achieving the desired results
- Aspires to a career in retail and wants to understand how it all fits together
- Needs help developing inexperienced managers and new hires to succeed quickly
