Explosion at Konica Minolta’s toner plant

Only two days ago Konica Minolta announced it had resumed production at its Tatsuno factory after the fire investigation was concluded and safety measures were put in place.
Konica Minolta announced that around 5:15pm, 12 August, there was an explosion at the Tatsuno Factory of Konica Minolta Supplies Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a Konica Minolta Group company. The factory is located in Tatsuno, Nagano Prefecture.
The notice said: “We would like to give our sincerest apologies again to residents in neighbouring communities, relevant authorities and all those for the trouble. Below is the status as of 8pm, August 12. We will keep posting updates.”
Describing the events, the company said that there was sound of explosion around 5:15pm. Employees of the factory confirmed it was an explosion in the production line and immediately called the local fire department and police department, among others. At 6:36pm the fire department completed their on-site activities with confirmation.
Konica Minolta confirmed that there was no injury or casualty. One unit of production equipment on the second floor of the production building was damaged and the external wall of the third floor of the building was partially damaged.
The on-site inspection will be conducted on 14 August with the local fire department and police department.
Effects on production and shipment are being assessed.
The company added: “The Konica Minolta Group sincerely addresses the incident again and, in cooperation with the local fire department, police department and relevant authorities, will thoroughly investigate the cause.”
