Epson builds ink tank factory in India

Jul 7, 2025

Japanese tech giant targets India with local printer plant to boost growth.

Epson, the Japanese digital technology company, has launched its first ink tank printer manufacturing facility in India. The new factory, located in Sriperumbudur near Chennai, was inaugurated on Friday and will begin operations in October 2025, according to reports by The Hindu.

The site will initially focus on producing Epson’s flagship EcoTank printers, which use high-capacity, cartridge-free ink systems. Built in collaboration with manufacturing partner RIKUN, the facility has a production capacity of 20,000 printers per month and will create 200 direct jobs.

The factory will cater exclusively to the Indian market, where Epson has sold over eight million EcoTank printers. Globally, more than 100 million units have been sold since the product’s launch a decade ago.

Samba Moorthy, President of Epson India, said the move marked a significant milestone in the company’s journey to support self-reliant, sustainable manufacturing aligned with India’s Make in India initiative.

Epson has operated in the Indian market for five decades.
