End of the line for Windows 10, Version 21H2

May 31, 2023

The last security update will be released on 13 June 2023. Devices running this older version will no longer receive monthly security updates, prompting automatic feature updates for Windows 10 consumer and non-managed business devices.

On 13 June 2023, the Home, Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations editions of Windows 10, version 21H2, will be the final update for this version.

Following the end of servicing, devices running Windows 10, version 21H2, will no longer receive important monthly security updates and preview updates, leaving them vulnerable to the latest security threats. To mitigate these risks and ensure continued protection and productivity, Windows Update will automatically initiate a feature update for Windows 10 consumer devices and non-managed business devices that are either at or within several months of reaching the end of servicing. This proactive measure aims to support these devices and receive the essential monthly updates necessary for maintaining security and ecosystem health.

Users of affected devices will have the opportunity to select a convenient time for their devices to restart and complete the update process. Users can maintain a secure and optimized computing environment by taking advantage of this automatic feature update.

Microsoft strongly advises all users to update their devices to the latest version of Windows 10 or, if eligible, upgrade to Windows 11. Detailed information regarding the end of servicing for Windows 10, version 21H2 (Home & Pro) can be found on the learn.microsoft.com lifecycle page. Users seeking additional information about servicing timelines and the lifecycle of Microsoft operating systems are encouraged to visit the Windows 10 release information, Windows 11 release information, Lifecycle FAQ – Windows, and Microsoft Lifecycle Policy search tool.

It is important to note that with the transition to newer Windows versions, some older printers may not be compatible or fully supported. Users should check with the respective printer manufacturers for guidance on compatibility with the latest Windows updates to ensure a seamless printing experience.

As the end of servicing for Windows 10, version 21H2 approaches, Microsoft is committed to providing continued support and security to its users, encouraging them to stay up to date with the latest operating system versions to protect against emerging threats and maximize productivity.
