Last month, ECS’s Associate Director Lauren Rabbitte featured as a guest speaker at the RWM ESS Expo.
The RWM ESS Expo is an event platform used to accelerate change towards a more sustainable planet and circular economy, where industry professionals gather to engage in critical discussions relating to waste and resource management, green technologies.
On behalf of ECS and ECS The Greener Side, Lauren Rabbitte featured alongside Claire Shrewsbury, WRAP, Geoff Mackey, Plastics Europe, Kieren Mayers, Sony Interactive Entertainment, Matt Manning, BT Group plc and Rob McCann, Virgin Media O2. In a discussion and Q&A session, WEEE waste, best practice for recycling, and circular solutions were some of the headlining topics of the day.
Regarding being invited to speak on the main stage, Rabbitte said “It’s fantastic news for ECS and ECS The Greener Side to achieve such recognition and to be invited on stage at such a prestigious event to discuss and share our views and insights into sustainable solutions, the circular economy and other pressing environmental topics alongside some key players within the sustainable sector.”
Speaking on one of the hot topics within the print industry at this moment in time, WEEE waste recycling, Rabbitte said: “Tackling the tremendous amount of waste single-use products that our industry produces is of paramount importance, but it’s something that’s often being overlooked by businesses. Alongside our partners in the UK and Europe, ECS The Greener Side prevents over 1,000,000 toner cartridges and consumables from entering landfills every single year, the majority of which are remanufactured to an OEM standard, thus able to be returned to the market as a premium product. Those which don’t meet remanufacturing standards are still kept within the ‘circular loop’ by being broken down into their raw material plastic and metal forms and reused in other product lifecycles.”
Rabbitte continued: “While there is still much to be done in terms of increasing awareness in this area, particularly regarding the consequences to both business who fail to recycle correctly, and the negative impact on the environment of failing to do so, we’re incredibly proud of our team and partners contributions towards this exceedingly important campaign.”
