Ecologic France wins State approval
September 3, 2018
The organisation has revealed that, as of 1 August 2018, it has been approved by public authorities to organise the recycling of professional print cartridges in France, in accordance with WEEE regulations.
As a result of this decree, published in the Official Journal at the beginning of August, Ecologic France has become the first eco-organisation to be charged with the collection and recycling of “all household and professional printing cartridges and to offer its services to all stakeholders.”
As well as serving as a manufacturer, remanufacturer and distributor of cartridges, Ecologic is also involved in waste management, with its own collectors and treatment operators – hence the awarding of the State’s approval.
Ecologic explains that “Each stakeholder concerned is therefore invited to approach Ecologic to verify its compliance requirements and the contractual framework to be considered.”
The organisation goes on to say that, it has “filed with the competent authorities a dossier of response to the specifications for the approval of the new ‘category 14’” for professional printing cartridges, and “obtaining this approval issued by the government validates the relevance of the application.”
It allows Ecologic to “offer the entire printing industry a “one-stop shop” for compliance for all print cartridges; whether they be of a household or professional nature, in addition to their historical ability to manage equipment.”
Ecologic goes on to explain that, for the sake of simplicity, it has opted to “apply the same principle for all cartridges”.
The scale of eco-contribution “distinguishes a total of 5 weight ranges depending on the type of products. The eco-contribution applied to small inkjet cartridges of less than 50g is set at 1cts; 2cts for single cans or cartridges up to 200g and 10 cts for complex laser cartridges from 500g to 1kg.”
By abiding by these guidelines, Ecologic says it is “thus able to deploy its administrative and operational capacity to take charge of the extended responsibility of print cartridge producers and to offer through its partners a complete collection and recycling solution that complies with the general regulations”.
