The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) reported on X that it has partnered with Japanese recycling firm JIT Yamanashi India Pvt Ltd. to introduce e-waste recycling boxes at its metro stations.

These boxes are specifically for the disposal of used printer ink bottles and cartridges, marking a significant step towards environmental sustainability. The initiative was officially launched at Hauz Khas Metro station in a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by SUZUKI Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to India, and Dr. Vikas Kumar, Managing Director of DMRC, along with senior officials from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and DMRC.

The recycling boxes have been installed at 15 key interchange stations including Welcome, Kashmere Gate, New Delhi, Rajiv Chowk, and Hauz Khas among others. Located in the paid areas of these stations, the boxes provide a convenient way for commuters to dispose of their used printer supplies responsibly.

This project, funded by JICA as part of their Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiatives, aims to promote a culture of recycling and environmental responsibility. The collected e-waste will be recycled in an environmentally friendly manner, reducing its harmful impact. The initiative is part of an MoU signed between DMRC and JIT Yamanashi India Pvt Ltd. last month.

Based on its success, the facility may be expanded to other major metro stations in the future.
