David Connett earns IEEE Life Membership, proving that tech innovation and sustainability will never retire!
David Connett, former Editor and Publisher of The Recycler and Founder of the European Toner & Inkjet Remanufacturers Association (ETIRA), has been honoured with life membership of the prestigious Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), marking a significant milestone in his distinguished career.
Connett’s decades-long involvement in promoting the circular economy, mainly through remanufacturing imaging consumables, has profoundly impacted the European market. Under his leadership, The Recycler became the leading publication in the industry, advocating for environmentally responsible business practices and raising awareness about issues such as e-waste, decaBDE contamination, and the need for fair take-back schemes.
Reflecting on his career, Connett emphasised the IEEE’s role in his early professional development: “In my earlier years working in the defence and avionics industry, IEEE membership played a pivotal role in enabling my career to grow. It provided access to a wealth of knowledge, professional networks, and the latest technological advancements that helped shape my path forward.”
As a Founder of ETIRA, Connett has been instrumental in representing European remanufacturers’ interests, creating a level playing field within the EU and promoting sustainable alternatives to single-use products in the office imaging sector.
Life membership of the IEEE not only recognises his work within the technology sphere but also reflects his ongoing commitment to advancing innovation and sustainability. The IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organisation, and Connett’s advocacy for sustainable technology aligns closely with the institute’s goals.
Connett said he will continue to champion eco-friendly innovation and hopefully inspire a new generation of engineers and professionals to consider technological advancement and environmental impact equally.
