Dash no more…

Aug 2, 2019 | 0 comments

Amazon announced in an emailed statement that its Dash button is being turned off at the end of this month.

Business Insider reports that the Amazon Dash button devices will be turned off in favour of users being able to create virtual ones on their Alexa assisted devices.

Launched in October 2015, the Amazon Dash button enabled its users to reorder frequently used products with the simple press of a button. The Dash Replenishment Service (DRS) allowed internet connected devices to order replacement consumable products “automatically when supplies ran low. The devices’ sensors or other mechanisms that would detect supply levels work with DRS to reliably determine when to trigger an order.

OEMs signed up for the services over the years with Kyocera only joining the service in July last year.

Initially, sales of the actual devices were ceased in February this year, but services were continued to support already existing customers. At the end of this month this will also be turned off.

Business Insider reported that Amazon’s spokeswoman Robyn Stewart said in her email statement: “Amazon is constantly evaluating our product and service offerings to best serve customers. Since sales of Dash Button devices ceased earlier this year, we have seen continued growth of other shopping options to meet customer needs.”
