CartridgesDirect celebrates the milestone of 50,000 ink cartridges recycled through their sustainability initiative, in partnership with Cartridges4PlanetArk.
To celebrate the milestone, the team estimated how much plastic they have prevented from entering the ocean, and how many turtles CartridgesDirect could be responsible for saving through their recycling efforts. Referencing previous studies on turtle mortality and plastic waste in Australia, this figure is estimated at 18 or 19 turtles each year, or 130 turtles in total since the programme began.
Research included identifying how many turtles die each year in Australian waters from plastic, and how much plastic produced by CartridgesDirect would end up in the ocean from waste – had these 50,000 cartridges not been recycled.
CartridgesDirect partnered up with collection agency Cartridges4PlanetArk seven years ago.
